Make No Mistake – Bookkeeping is Serious Business

Mistakes made by bookkeepers can lead to disastrous results.  The bookkeeper for a large company I worked for several years ago misplaced one decimal point.  that one decimal point created a bank balance in the books that was too high, which in turn, caused the boos to think he could afford a certain machine that was very expensive.  Unfortunately, because of that error, his check bounced, he lost his good reputation with his supplier, and he fired employee.  One option to reduce mistakes is to computerize the bookkeeping system and to have a second person double check all entries in the system.
