Unwanted phonecalls

I am fuming because somehow my landline phone number has been handed out to a load of insurance companies. This week we have been bombarded with calls form insurance companies far and wide trying to sell us home insurance or talk to us about life insurance types. Most of these people have a very basic concept of the English language and find it hard to understand me when I am telling them to go away, no idea how they would be able to engage in a conversation about insurance with this being the case! It has got to the point that I am having to leave the phone off the hook just so I can watch an hour of television undisturbed.
