I was unsure about this because I knew that he already had a regular DVD writer and I did not know the difference between the one he had and the one that he was planning on getting. After he explained to me that the new writer had high definition writing capabilities, however, the differences between the two writers became clear to me and I understood why he would want to get himself a new one.
